The State College Area School District is a large, suburban-rural public district encompassing 150 square miles in Centre County. The district is the most populous in Centre County, due in part to the fact that State College is home to Penn State University - the area’s largest employer. The mission of the district is “to prepare students for lifelong success through excellence in education.”
The district is made up of nine elementary schools, three secondary schools, two middle schools, and one high school divided between two different buildings. There are also four additional public charter schools. The district draws from many surrounding areas including State College, Boalsburg, Park Forest, Pennsylvania Furnace, Port Matilda, Centre Hall, Pine Grove Mills, Lemont and Bellefonte. The school colors are maroon and gray and the SCASD mascot is the Little Lion.
